There are many things that enrich our daily lives we simply don’t understand: microprocessors, WiFi, quantum physics. And viennoiserie. The magical art of layering butter with dough, and transforming the resulting form into unimaginably delicate vessels for indescribably delicious fillings. Thankfully, the two hatted chefs behind Lode have spent years refining the craft of pastry making to deliver, quite simply, the most perfect croissants, tarts and pies you’ve ever had.

Perfection, of course, leaves nothing to chance. Only a limited number of pastries are made by hand, from scratch each day, partly because of the time it takes to make them – Lode takes the principle of quality over quantity to new extremes. As you’d expect, the ingredients are organic, sustainable, free-range and sourced from the best producers – including the butter, which comes from Normandy in France. If you’re going to indulge in a few well-deserved calories, it makes sense they’re as tasty and as beautifully made as possible. With only a handful of items on the menu, it won’t take you long to find your favourite pleasures.
